Each year, NEGIS awards scholarships to outstanding students pursuing GIS-related degrees in the Northeast. Our goal is to reduce financial barriers and elevate emerging talent in the geospatial industry.

NEGIS 2019 Scholarship Winners
Bryce Stouffer, Clark University, Worcester, MA
I’m currently a Master’s student at Clark University in the MSGIS program. My studies are focused around the conservation applications of GIS, and I have a particular interest in wildfire. I have an undergraduate degree in Information Technology and previous conservation experience working for the Student Conservation Association. My goals for this summer are to obtain an internship with a non-profit or government agency where I can make positive conservation impacts through the use of technology, specifically geospatial technology. In addition, I’m keen on learning and absorbing the skills and knowledge necessary to propel a GIS career focused on environmental stewardship.
Erika Welch, University Massachusetts Boston, Boston, MA
I am a recent graduate of the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMB) with a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science concentrating in Earth and Hydrologic Systems. I am currently a graduate student in the School for the Environment at the UMB with anticipated graduation in May 2020. My graduate career focuses on Stormwater Management and Urban Development. I am a Teacher’s assistant for two undergraduate courses, Intro to GIS and Advanced Topics in GIS. I am also a Geospatial Analyst for projects that focus on climate change and necessary adaptions for Boston and the greater Boston area. I hope to utilize my GIS knowledge to help communicate climate change impacts to the general public and policy makers.
Amanda Payton, Clark University, Worcester, MA
Amanda Payton is currently a first-year graduate student at Clark University. She will be graduating in May 2020 with a degree in Geographic Information Systems and a conservation concentration. Amanda is dedicated to the environment and hopes to spend the summer interning with an organization where she can put her geospatial skills to use assisting in conversation efforts.

Professional Development Grants - Investing in Lifelong Learning for GIS Professionals
NEGIS offers Professional Development Grants to support continuing education and skill-building for GIS practitioners in the Northeast. Whether you're pursuing a certification, attending a workshop, or upgrading your technical expertise, these grants help offset costs and encourage career growth.
Who Can Apply:
• GIS professionals working in public, private, or academic sectors
• Residents of the Northeastern United States
• Applicants seeking funding for GIS-related training, conferences, or certifications
Eligible Activities:
• Esri technical workshops and certification programs
• URISA, NEURISA, or NEGIS conference attendance
• Online courses in Python, remote sensing, spatial analysis, or cartography
• University extension programs or bootcamps
Grant Amounts:
Are awarded on a rolling basis or during designated cycles

NEGIS
NEGIS is a charitable organization whose purpose is to: raise awareness and promote geographic information technology in the community; promote continuing education in geographic information technology and to share information throughout the community; award scholarships and internships to geographic information technology students, who are pursuing relevant degrees, certificates or using geographic information technology as an integral part of their degree or learning experience (at the post-secondary level); and, fund the scholarships through conferences, lunch and learn events, and other activities to elevate awareness.
